Neodymium (Nd) magnets

Neodymium (Nd) magnets are the strongest permanent magnets known to man, almost magical in their properties. One must be very careful - their attraction to ferrous materials and each other is very strong. They can collide with each other at very high velocities, sometimes shattering, sending sparks and chips (shrapnel) around. If they come together on your fingers - it can be quite painful, or if the magnet is large enough, it can even cause severe injury, so be cautious when handling them. You probably also want to avoid these if you have a pacemaker.

The potential applications for rare earth magnets are numerous; a variety of products are made with them. Usually these products are expensive, and could be made yourself if you just had the magnets.
